Endress+Hauser Gammapilot FMG50: Non-Contact Radiometric Measurement for Extreme Process Conditions

Endress+Hauser Gammapilot FMG50 radiometric level and density transmitter supply

One compact platform for demanding radiometric applications

The Endress+Hauser Gammapilot FMG50 is a compact, non-contact radiometric transmitter for continuous level, point level, interface, density and concentration measurement. Its two-wire loop-powered design reduces engineering and installation effort while supporting applications where corrosion, abrasion, viscosity, toxicity, pressure or temperature make conventional contact instruments difficult to use.

Because the detector is mounted outside the process vessel, FMG50 has no wetted parts and no process connection. It can be applied to reactors, autoclaves, separators, acid tanks and cyclones containing liquids, solids, suspensions or sludges. Heartbeat Technology, SIL 2/3 capability and optional Bluetooth operation support safer commissioning, diagnostics and proof testing.

Why Choose the Gammapilot FMG50?

Non-invasive measurement
External mounting means no contact with the medium and no process-related temperature or pressure limitation for the detector.
Lower installation effort
The true two-wire, loop-powered compact design simplifies cabling, engineering and replacement projects.
Built for plant availability
Heartbeat Technology, SIL 2/3 capability and Bluetooth commissioning support diagnostics and maintenance.

How Radiometric Measurement Works

A sealed gamma source and source container are installed on one side of the vessel, while the FMG50 detector is mounted on the opposite side. The process medium attenuates the radiation passing through the vessel. The transmitter evaluates the received intensity and converts it into a level, interface, density, concentration or point-level signal. Since all measuring components remain outside the process, the method is especially valuable for vessels that cannot be opened or penetrated.

Installation and Selection Notes

A complete radiometric system requires the correctly sized detector, sealed isotope, source container and mounting accessories. Detector length, source activity, vessel geometry, wall thickness, insulation and internal structures must be considered during engineering. Installation, commissioning, transport and servicing of radioactive sources must comply with all applicable laws and be carried out only by trained and authorized radiation-safety personnel.

Information Needed for Correct Selection

  1. Measurement task: continuous level, point level, interface, density or concentration
  2. Vessel dimensions, wall material and wall thickness
  3. Medium density range and expected process variation
  4. Insulation, jackets, internal structures and available mounting space
  5. Required SIL, WHG and hazardous-area approvals
  6. Signal, display, Bluetooth and diagnostic requirements
