Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP52: Coated Guided Wave Radar for Corrosive Liquids

Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP52 guided wave radar level transmitter

A coated probe designed for aggressive liquids

The Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP52 is a guided-wave radar transmitter developed for continuous level and interface measurement in corrosive liquids. Its gap-free coated probe helps isolate metallic probe components from the process, making FMP52 especially relevant for chemical storage, dosing and production vessels.

FMP52 is available with rod or rope probes and should be selected as a complete measuring system. Probe type and length, process connection, wetted materials, communication, housing, approvals and optional functions must all match the vessel and process conditions.

What Makes the FMP52 Different?

The defining feature of the FMP52 is its chemically resistant coated probe. Endress+Hauser describes it as a premium device for corrosive media, with FDA-listed wetted materials and rod or rope probe options. This differentiates it from the more general-purpose FMP51 when aggressive liquid compatibility is the main selection driver.

Corrosive-liquid focus
Coated probe construction for demanding chemical applications.
Level plus interface
Simultaneous overall level and clean liquid/liquid interface measurement.
Flexible integration
HART, PROFIBUS PA, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and optional Bluetooth communication.

How Guided Wave Radar Works

Short radar pulses travel along the probe. When the pulses reach the product surface—or the boundary between two liquids—part of the signal is reflected to the transmitter. The elapsed travel time is converted into level. Because the signal follows a defined path, guided wave radar can remain reliable with moving surfaces, foam and changing media.

Specifications depend on the selected order code and configuration. Always verify chemical compatibility, approvals and application limits against the current manufacturer documentation.

Rod Probe or Rope Probe?

Coated rod probe
Well suited to shorter measuring ranges and vessels where a rigid probe is easy to install. The published maximum probe length is 4 m.
Coated rope probe
Suitable for taller vessels and longer ranges. Check anchoring, installation clearance, dielectric constant and the effect of vessel internals during selection.

Interface Measurement

FMP52 can measure total level and a clean interface between two liquids simultaneously. Successful interface measurement depends on the dielectric properties of both liquids, the interface condition and the absence of problematic emulsion layers. Provide actual product data when requesting a quotation.

Typical Applications

  • Chemical storage tanks containing aggressive liquids
  • Acid and alkali vessels
  • Process tanks requiring coated wetted parts
  • Liquid/liquid interface measurement
  • Applications with foam, movement or changing media
  • Hygienic duties using a suitable Tri-Clamp or DIN 11851 configuration

FMP51 or FMP52?

ModelBest-fit selection focus
Levelflex FMP51Demanding general liquid level and interface duties with metallic, alloy, ceramic or PFA wetted-part options.
Levelflex FMP52Corrosive liquids where a chemically resistant coated rod or rope probe is central to the application.

Information Needed for Correct Selection

  1. Medium name, concentration and material compatibility requirements
  2. Tank height, nozzle dimensions and probe installation position
  3. Process temperature and pressure
  4. Dielectric constant and whether interface measurement is required
  5. Preferred rod or rope probe and required measuring range
  6. Process connection, communication and hazardous-area approvals
