Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP54: Guided Wave Radar for High-Temperature and High-Pressure Applications

Built for extreme process conditions
The Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP54 is a guided-wave radar transmitter developed for continuous liquid level measurement under high temperature and high pressure. It is particularly suited to demanding oil and gas, chemical and power-industry duties where process reliability and pressure-boundary integrity are essential.
Selecting an FMP54 involves more than choosing a measuring range. The probe type, process connection, temperature version, pressure rating, wetted materials, communication protocol and application approvals must all match the vessel and operating conditions.
Why Choose the Levelflex FMP54?
The HT version is specified for process temperatures up to +450 °C, while low-temperature variants extend down to −196 °C.
Published process-pressure capability extends from vacuum to 400 bar, depending on the selected configuration.
Rod, rope and coaxial probes support different vessel geometries, measuring distances and dielectric conditions.
How Guided Wave Radar Works
Short radar pulses travel along the probe toward the product surface. A portion of the signal is reflected where the dielectric value changes, and the transmitter converts the return time into a continuous level value. Because the energy is guided by the probe, the measuring principle can remain effective in narrow nozzles and difficult vessel geometries when the installation is correctly engineered.

Specifications, approvals and allowable pressure/temperature combinations depend on the complete order code. Always confirm the current manufacturer documentation for the selected configuration.
Choosing the Right Probe
| Probe type | Typical selection focus |
|---|---|
| Rod probe | Compact vessels and stable installations where a rigid probe is practical. |
| Rope probe | Tall vessels and longer measuring ranges; clearance, anchoring and process movement must be evaluated. |
| Coaxial probe | Low-dielectric liquids and installations needing a controlled signal path, subject to product compatibility. |
Typical Applications
- High-pressure separators and process vessels
- Refinery and petrochemical liquid-level duties
- Steam drums, boiler systems and power-generation applications
- High-temperature reactors and columns
- Liquefied gases and cryogenic process conditions
- Critical inventory and interface-measurement points
FMP53 or FMP54?
| Model | Primary selection focus |
|---|---|
| Levelflex FMP53 | Hygienic food and life-sciences duties with sanitary connections and cleaning requirements. |
| Levelflex FMP54 | High-temperature and high-pressure liquid applications in oil and gas, chemical and power industries. |
Information Needed for Correct Selection
